The students will create an
inspirational InfoGraphic that contains a Big Dream that either expresses their wishes for the future and/of for our society. Their InfoGraphics will be printed as well
as published on the corridor walls of the school. The idea behind the project
is making the students reflect upon things that they would not question
regularly.
The students will invite their parents to read their InfoGraphics once in the school and they will also help their parents create an account to comment on their InfoGraphics online. The students will work on vocabulary related to dreams, wishes and the needs of our society. They will also work on the following grammar structures: expressing wishes (I wish I…./I would like to).

Setting of the project
Age Group: 14-15 years old. The abstraction level that students can reach at the age of
fifteen is far much higher than primary students who have not yet developed
their abstract skills to be able to analyze, so profoundly, wishes and changes in the society.
Language Level: Intermediate
Language Areas: Social Studies (I’ve designed this project mainly thinking of those students who are willing to learn about Phycology, Human Resources and Philosophy )
Number of Students: 20 (I’ve chosen this number trying to think averagely, but this project can fit into bigger or smaller classes)
Duration: 1 lesson (40 minutes) . The ones who have not finished can do so on their computers at home.
Physical Location: Computer lab and the classroom

LESSON N°1 : HUNTING BIG DREAMS
Communicative goal: Expressing what oneself and other people wish for the future
Grammar focus: (I would like to, I Wish)
Vocabulary focus: (Society, dreams, wishes, desires, things
to be changed)
Activation (15’):
Time Allotted: 15 minutes
The teacher will tell the students
that her/his inspirational leader is Martin Luther King and that he/she would
like to share a video with them. The teacher will use the projector. The video
is called “I have a dream” and its link is the following
The teacher will not stop the video at any
time. Predictions on what will happen next will not be asked by the teacher
since the students need to be exposed to such a motivational video, feeling
that they are indeed listening to Martin Luther King personally. The idea is for the students to reflect upon King's ideas and thoughts.
Advantages: The whole class can see the projected image
Disadvantages: Internet connection might bring about difficulties but, if the lesson has been carefully planned, the teacher should have downloaded the video in advance.
Plan B: In case the projector does not work, the teacher will read the speech
acting it out.
The teacher will hand out the following worksheet:
Reflect upon the video you have just said and answer
the following questions thoroughly
· Have you been inspired by the video?
· What are Martin Luther king’s main concerns?
· What aptitudes does he possess?
· Do you think he got his message across?
|
Once the students have finished
answering, the teacher will invite the students to share their answers,
promoting a debate
Expected duration of the debate: 10 more minutes
The teacher will describe the objective of the whole
project and will take some minutes to clarify doubts
Task : Time Alloted: 25 minutes
The teacher will take the students
to the computer lab where the teacher will share her/his very own precious
dream. The teacher will send a group email with the following link:
The teacher will present his/her Big
Dream by Piktochart
https://create.piktochart.com/infographic/saved/30323734, a web-based infographic application which allows
users without intensive experience as graphic designers to easily create
professional-grade infographics using themes templates.
The teacher Precious Dream will look as follows:
The students will be asked to create
an Infographic about their Big Dreams using Piktochart.
The instruction will look as follows:
Create your own Infographic based on a Big Dream you
would like to come true. This Big Dream has not to be a selfish desire, on
the very contrary; it has to be something that may improve our society in any
way. Also, if someone has ever inspired you, please say who and why. If
possible, add an inspirational quote to your Infographic that has been
written by your motivational person so that we get to know him/her. This
quote must depict his/her main wish/es. Finally, write at least two things
that you would like to put into practice in order to achieve your dream.

Finally, the students ill print their InfoGraphics at home and bring them to school to stick them on the school corridor.
